In Rio Brazil, it was the U.S. lost in the quarterfinals. She first took part in her first FIFA Women's World Cup in 2011. Her contributions helped her to enable the U.S. Women's World Cup to win two consecutive titles in 2015 and 2019. In 2018, she was named cocaptain. The 2020 Olympics held in Tokyo Japan postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 virus. Rapinoe had two goals in the bronze-medal game as her team from the United States defeated Australia by the four-to-3 score.
